Named in honor of Michael C. Riley (1873–1966), a pioneering African‑American educator, civic leader, and the first Black trustee of Beaufort County School District #2, the park sits adjacent to the historic site of the Michael C. Riley Schools, which served Bluffton’s African‑American community from the early 20th century through desegregation in 1970. Current amenities include three baseball fields, a covered outdoor basketball court, two batting cages, restrooms, and multi-use trails that accommodate walkers, runners, and informal sports. Geographically, the park lies in southern Beaufort County, nearby notable landmarks such as Saint Joseph’s Park and Bluffton Branch Library, approximately seven miles from Hilton Head Island.
