Valley Metro Rail, Inc. ("Valley Metro") is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to gather technical and commercial information from manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers of hydraulic axle presses. Valley Metro is evaluating options to purchase an axle press with a minimum rated pressing capacity of 250 tons for use in its light rail vehicle maintenance operations. Both new and used equipment will be considered. The information gathered through this RFI will be used to better understand the products, services, and suppliers available in the market, to develop realistic budget estimates, and to prepare a clear and accurate technical specification for a potential future solicitation. This RFI is for informational and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation or commitment to procure goods or services.
Valley Metro Rail provides 35 miles of light rail and 3 miles of streetcar service across Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa. With 51 light rail stations and 14 streetcar stations, riders can connect to employment, education, and recreation, as well as the regional transit system. Riders can hop on board 365 days a year, 20+ hours a day, with 12-minute peak frequency during peak hours. Valley Metro Maintains and operates seventy-two (72) light rail vehicles consisting of Siemens and Kinkisharyo LRVs. For its streetcar fleet, Valley Metro maintains and operates six (6) Brookville Liberty NXT streetcars. Wheelset maintenance activities, including the pressing and removal of wheels, gear units, and bearings on axles, will be performed at Valley Metro’s Operations and Maintenance Center, located at 605 S. 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85034.
