County of Volusia - Coastal has issued invitation for bid, solicitation 26-B-127JS.
The Volusia County Coastal Division is responsible for the permitting and construction of all artificial reefs offshore of Volusia County. There are currently 18 artificial reef sites and over 160 individual artificial reefs anywhere from 1 to 33 miles from Ponce Inlet in depths from 50 to 130 feet. The Volusia County Artificial Reef program has been in place since 1980. It was originally under the control of the Halifax Sportfishing Club and later taken over by the Volusia County Port Authority and finally the Volusia County Council. The main goal is to create additional habitat and recreational opportunities for the fishing and diving community. The County currently manages 18 state and federally permitted reef construction areas and 160+ individual reef sites, including concrete structures, steel ships and barges that range from 1 to 33 miles from Ponce de Leon inlet in waters from 50 to 130 feet in depth.
